Harry Macy’s name is synonymous with TQ Midget racing throughout the region and his passion for the division was contagious. Macy owned, drove, officiated and promoted TQ Midget racing throughout his 84-years of life. Throughout his racing career he was one of the most recognized ambassador’s the sport has ever had, always greeting people with a smile and standard line.
On Saturday, September 28, the Race of Champions will proudly recognize Macy and his passion for the division with the running of the “Harry Macy Classic” as part of Presque Isle Downs & Casino Race of Champions Weekend at Lake Erie Speedway in Northeast, Pa.
“This is an honor for my Father,” stated Harry’s son Billy Macy, during a recent phone call. “This will be a great event for the division and we are looking forward to it.”
Billy Macy will play the role of Grand Marshall for the first “Harry Macy Classic” and give the command to the driver’s to fire the engines in honor of his late Father on race day. Macy’s car number “9” will be featured throughout the event.
Qualifying races for this event will be 9-laps with a 29-lap feature race. More information in regard to the race and the race weekend will be forthcoming.
