Inside Line Promotions – STOCKTON, Calif. (March 18, 2019) – Time behind the wheel is the biggest focus for every young driver and Mason Daniel is certainly learning lap by lap.

Daniel, who is only a month into his first career season racing a 410ci winged sprint car, gained more valuable experience last weekend during a World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series doubleheader in his home state of California.

“It’s rough when you look at the finishes, but where we look at it is how were we speed-wise,” he said. “We’ll check the times. ‘Alright, you had the fourth fastest lap, but you didn’t finish there. How do we take that lap and repeat it every lap?’ You take a whooping racing with the Outlaws. We’re rookies racing with the best. We’re aiming for small victories.”

Daniel qualified 16th quickest in his group to open the action on Friday at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico during the Silver Dollar Shootout presented by Reibes NAPA Auto Parts. A ninth-place finish in a heat race and a fifth-place run in the C Main wrapped up the night.

Daniel ventured to Stockton Dirt Track on Saturday for the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown. He timed in 33rd quickest in qualifying before advancing from ninth to eighth place in a heat race and from 13th to eighth place in the Last Chance Showdown.

“The tracks in California are rougher and they change a lot so that’s something I have to learn,” he said. “If you qualify in the back you’re in the back of a heat and if you don’t make it through that you’re in the back of the B Main. That’s where I have to work on my driving. The car is fast enough. I just have to hit my marks and make a better lap in qualifying.”

The next opportunity to compete is this Friday at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, Calif., during the Ocean Outlaw Showdown and Saturday at Placerville Speedway in Placerville, Calif., during the 49er Gold Rush Classic presented by Riebes NAPA Auto Parts. The races with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series will be his first at both tracks.

“It’s not like the Midwest where you have to be smooth,” he said. “These bullrings are about smashing the gas and hoping you go fast. I’ve taken the Midwest thinking of trying to be smooth. I think that matters, but after the past weekend and talking to some people out here it’s more about hitting the gas and hanging on.”
