Bryan Hulbert – TULSA, Okla. (March 18, 2019) Two for the price of one as the ASCS Southwest Region will open their season on Saturday, March 23 at Queen Creek’s Arizona Speedway while the San Tan Ford ASCS Desert Non-Wing Sprint Series ready for their third-round of 2019 competition.
The first of eight trips on the year at Arizona Speedway for the San Tan Ford ASCS Desert Non-Wing Sprint Series, action at Central Arizona Speedway and Canyon Speedway Park to open the season has positioned Aaron Jones atop the points by 20 markers over R.J. Johnson, who topped action at Canyon Speedway Park on February 9, 2019.
Trailing by 26, Kyle Shipley, who won the last time the series was at Arizona Speedway on November 24, 2018, holds third with Dennis Gile and Ronald Webster making up the top-five in tour standings.
Coming in on title defense, Rick Ziehl will look to start things off on the right foot as he pursues his 11th title with the ASCS Southwest Region. Using constancy to score his 2018 Championship, with eighth top-five and a dozen top-ten runs, Ziehl will look to snap a rare winless streak as the New Mexico’s racers last win came 27 races ago on May 6, 2017, in Queen Creek, Ariz.
The 5th annual San Tan Ford Sprint Fling on Saturday, March 23 will also include IMCA Modifieds, Stock Cars, and ModLites. Gates to the grandstands open at 5:00 P.M. with racing getting underway at 7:00 P.M. (MT). Admission is $18 for adults with Seniors only $15. Kids 11 and under get in the grandstands for free.
