Inside Line Promotions – GREENVILLE, Texas (Feb. 22, 2019) – Zane Lawrence battled throughout a tricky weekend last Friday through Sunday at Superbowl Speedway, which hosted the season-opening Lucas Oil National Open Wheel 600 Series presented by Tel-Star Technologies doubleheader.

Lawrence, who was competing in the Stock Non-Wing division for Chance Hull, kicked off the action on Friday. He started on the pole of a heat race, but fell back a couple of positions to finish third.

“We set ourselves back in the heat race,” he said. “We fell back a couple spots, which meant we were going to have to dig out of the B Main.”

A third-place run in a B Main locked Lawrence into the inside of the 10th row for the feature. He picked off a few positions by the time the checkered flag waved to finish 14th.

“The track was pretty one-grooved so it was difficult to pass,” he said. “The only way to pick up a position was to boot someone off the bottom and get them out of the groove so you would have the advantage. That’s how we picked up the positions that we did.”

Saturday’s scheduled event was postponed until Sunday afternoon because of weather. Lawrence finished fourth in his heat after starting from the outside of the third row. He capped the night by placing 13th in the A Main.

“We had a better night, just didn’t get lucky having to start that far back in the heat,” he said. “Again, it was a one-groove track with not a lot of passing. I had fun though. I have to give a big thanks to Chance Hull and John Roan for letting me race.”

Lawrence’s next scheduled event will be March 15-16 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, during the 46th annual ASCS Spring Nationals with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
