PETERSEN MEDIA- Kicking 2019 off in Florida over the last week, Ian Madsen and KCP Racing did not quite net the results they had hoped of after ending 2018 on a high note.

“It was just not a very good week for us,” Ian Madsen said. “We would seem to get our nights started off well in time trials, but we would seem to struggle as the night went on and not finish well.”

Opening the year by battling the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions at the Volusia Speedway Park on Wednesday night, Madsen would time the Logan Contractors Supply/Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring entry in third fastest in his time trial group, putting him on the pole of his heat race.

Racing to a second place finish in his heat, a second place finish in the Dash would put Madsen in the second row to start his first feature event of the season.

Slowly falling back through the field over the course of the opener, Madsen would take the checkered flag with a 12th place finish.

One final dress rehearsal on Thursday night with the All Stars saw Madsen time in fifth fastest in his group, which lined the KCP Racing team up fifth in their heat race. Slipping back to finish sixth, a trip to the ‘B’ main would be required where the St. Marys, NSW pilot would pocket the win and transfer into the feature event.

From the back of the pack, Madsen and company would continue to tune on their machine to get better in the feature event but it would prove to be tough to move forward as he would close the night 19th on this night.

Getting off to a great start during Friday night’s World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink opener, Madsen would earn quick time honors in time trials and line up on the pole of his heat race.

Finishing third in his heat, Madsen would transfer into the 30-lap feature event where he would take the green flag from the ninth starting position. With the race clicking along, Madsen would fade towards the end of the race as he fell out of the top-10 and finished 17th.

Though frustrated, the KCP Racing team would continue to grind as Saturday night saw the team time in 12th fastest amongst the 31 cars checked into the event.

While running in a transfer position in the heat race and battling for a spot in the Dash, a big plume of smoke would billow out of the engine compartment and Madsen would be forced to take his machine back to the trailer.

With the team able to make a fix prior to the Last Chance Showdown, Madsen would finish fourth and keep his night rolling into the second WoO feature event of the year.

Moving into the feature event, a fast paced, nonstop affair would see Madsen go down a lap early which would make his night that much more difficult. Sticking it out to give his Kyle Ripper led crew some feed back, Madsen would close the weekend out with a 25th place finish as Sunday night’s race was washed out.

“In the scheme of things I really wish we could have raced on Sunday to try and get things sorted,” Ian Madsen noted. “We definitely didn’t struggle due to lack of effort, but we need to be good through the entire night with the World of Outlaws. It felt good to get our season going, and thanks to all of the great people who make this possible.”

Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Kline Electric, Ted’s Body Shop, Team Excavating, Greenland Homes, American Express, TammyHeckart.com, Quality Traffic Control, BergenKDV, P1 Race Wear, Monarch’s, and BK Racing Titanium for their support this season.
