Inside Line Promotions – TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. (Jan. 28, 2019) – Sean Vardell has lofty goals entering the 2019 campaign following a breakout rookie year.

Vardell, who spent four years racing outlaw karts before climbing into a full-size sprint car last year, is aiming to compete for the TriboDyn Lubricants Carolina Sprint Tour championship as well as in IMCA national points during his sophomore season behind the wheel.

“We’ll run the full CST season, which has 16 points races and 18 races that count for IMCA national points,” he said. “We’re going to try to go up to Hagerstown for the Mason-Dixon race. We’ll plan on going to the nationals in Nebraska. I’d like to hit one or two races at Lake Ozark Speedway (in Eldon, Mo.), which is near where I grew up. I’d also like to go north to Williams Grove to race as well.”

The expectations are high after Vardell produced a feature victory during his first career sprint car race in April 2018 when he won the Carolina Sprint Tour season opener at Sumter Speedway in Sumter, S.C.

“I didn’t quite know what to think,” he said. “It felt like a gun fight out there. I knew they were coming behind me and I held on. I was lost for words. I probably bent the wing up standing on top of it. I hadn’t had a feeling like that in a long time.”

Vardell added a pair of third-place runs and outings of fifth and sixth during nine total races en route to winning the Carolina Sprint Tour Rookie of the Year Award. He also finished third in the championship standings.

“A lot of hard work went into it,” he said. “I was thankful for my team and crew – Mark Goin, Erick Harpes and Terra Gedeon. We grew as a team with all of us being rookies in sprint cars. It was a crazy up and down experience all season long. We ran our hearts out. I wasn’t expecting to run that well last year. It was kind of surprising, but I knew we had a good group of core guys. We learned so much I think we’re going to do well this year.”

The season opener for the TriboDyn Lubricants Carolina Sprint Tour is April 27 at Sumter Speedway.
