After placing third in the 2017 season standings, Kory Schudy and car owner Jon Sawyer stormed into the 2018 race season with a plan of redemption. A four year POWRi West Midget League veteran, Kory wheeled his Hughs Bros/Empire Energy and Sprint Lawn Care/VP Racing Fuels sponsored, Gaerte powered number 28 BOSS Chassis to the top of the leaderboard.
Racing out of Springfield, Missouri, consistency was key for Kory and Jon. Out of 29 scheduled races, 23 shows were completed for the POWRi West Midget League. Kory made all 23 A Features during the 2018 season. Kory found himself in victory lane once this season at the newly reopened Port City in Tulsa, Oklahoma. With one win, and earning 14 top fives from across the region, the Missouri native ran away with the points, finishing 1350 points ahead of second place. Kory was also the highest placing West driver at National/West Co-sanctioned shows on multiple occasions, with fourth being his highest placing finish. “Kory’s ability to be in the shop working on maintenance is what has been a key to our successful season. I feel like he’s earned a great year” commented Sawyer. With the new addition of the “Sooner Series” under the POWRi West banner, Kory is not only the POWRi West Midget League Champion, but also the Sooner Series Champion as well. Jon and Kory would like to thank their sponsors for all of their support to make their championship season possible.
The next chance to watch multiple POWRi West drivers in action will be at The 33rd Annual Chili Bowl Nationals in Tulsa, Oklahoma. To keep up with your favorite POWRi West drivers all season long, “Like” POWRi West on Facebook, “Follow” POWRi_West on Twitter, and visit www.powri.com.
