Inside Line Promotions – MARION, Ark. (Dec. 11, 2018) – Derek Hagar will make his first midget start since January this Saturday when he invades the Southern Illinois Center for the Junior Knepper 55.

Hagar, who co-owns the race car with Jonathan Proctor, last raced a midget during the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals and prior to that his most recent start was during the 2017 edition of the Junior Knepper 55. The USAC P1 Insurance National Midgets event is held in Du Quoin, Ill.

“I use it as seat time and to get comfortable in the car,” he said. “We had some issues last year that put us pretty far back in the features. Our goal is to go out and make the show and be as competitive as we can. We’re not a big team by no means, but it’d be fun to go out there and compete with them.”

A DNF in a heat race relegated Hagar toward the back of the C Main during last year’s event. He maneuvered from 14th to fifth in the race before rallying from 17th to ninth in the B Main, which narrowly missed a transfer into the main event.

“I raced there back in 2009 and 2010 and there for a while we didn’t run a midget until last year,” he said. “I think I’ve ran in Du Quoin probably five or six times. The only feature I made there we were running good and I got squeezed into the wall on the front straightaway and cut a tire down.

“I think the track is smaller than the Chili Bowl. It is little, bity and flat. It’s a fight for the bottom. People do get rough from time to time. It has potential of getting wild. You always have to be up on the steering wheel. I think that’s what makes this race so fun. It happens so quick you never think about relaxing.”
