I-90 Speedway set to open in May
The racing community of the Sioux Falls area has something to cheer about. I-90 Speedway, near Hartford, South Dakota, will reopen in 2019 under new management.
While Lyle and Dawn Howey continue to own the facility, Rod “Hot Rod” Pattison will serve as general manager of the track. The 2019 racing season will begin in early May and run Saturday nights through early September.
"I am so fired up about this project and the team we have assembled,” said Pattison. “We have a lot of work to do to make this all come together, but it's all going to be worth it come opening night."
In addition to Pattison, Dale Furby is the track’s new competition director and Terry Kjergaard will serve in a media relations role. Shawn Neisteadt is the track’s new announcer.
“This management team has literally decades of experience in all facets of racing and have what it takes to make a track, and the sport of racing, great,” added Pattison.
The popular Race Saver Sprint Cars will headline the weekly competition along with Late Model Street Stocks, B-Modifieds and Hobby Stocks. I-90 Speedway will also host several special events including the Midwest Sprint Touring Series and the Tri-State Late Model Series.
Details on schedule dates, rules and more will be announced at a news conference to be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 11 at the Holiday Inn City Center in downtown Sioux Falls.
I-90 Speedway originally opened in 1976. The 3/8 mile dirt oval last held competition in 2015.
