Lonnie Wheatley, WINCHESTER, Ind. (November 29, 2018) – On the heels of a top ten Turkey Night finish last Thursday, Brady Bacon finishes out his 2018 racing season with this weekend’s $10,000-to-win Midget portion of the Gateway Dirt Nationals at St. Louis’ The Dome at America’s Center.
Following an open practice session for the Midgets on Thursday, Bacon takes the wheel of the FMR No. 76m for a full state of action on Friday and then Saturday’s championship features.
The event will extend Bacon’s race total for the season to 103 after pulling double duty at last week’s Turkey Night Grand Prix at California’s Ventura Raceway on Wednesday and Thursday.
After getting collected in an early incident in the USAC West Coast Sprint Car feature that effectively eliminated any chance for Bacon to collect the $50,000 bonus for winning both, Bacon raced from tenth to seventh in the 98-lap USAC Midget season finale that headlined the 98th running of the “Turkey Night Midget Grand Prix”.
The Turkey Night double began with Sprint Car action on Wednesday night with Bacon placing second in his heat race and then fourth in his qualifier to land a spot among the top ten in the Dash. Bacon raced on to a fourth-place finish in the Dash to earn the second row outside starting position for Thursday’s feature.
However, Bacon’s run aboard the Brady Bacon Racing No. 99 was cut short when another car spun and left nowhere to go in the early going.
Earlier in the evening, Bacon timed in tenth-quick among the field of 61 USAC Midgets to secure a fifth-row starting position.
Bacon battled throughout the 98-lapper, climbing to seventh by race’s end for his 61st overall top ten of the year.
Already with ten wins on the season, Bacon tries to make it 11 as he goes for this weekend’s $10,000 winner’s share as Midgets take part in the Gateway Dirt Nationals for the first time.
