Fresh off his first USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car title, Tyler Courtney leads Mike Curb Super License standings heading into the final two events of the year when the USAC P1 Insurance National Midgets meet for a pair of California races Nov. 17 at Bakersfield Speedway and Nov. 22 at Ventura Raceway for the 78th running of the “Turkey Night Grand Prix.”
Courtney leads Kevin Thomas, Jr. by just 58 points for the title that honors the driver who accumulates the most combined points across USAC’s three national divisions - Silver Crown, Sprint Car and Midget - throughout the 2018 season. Two points-paying USAC National Midget races remain to claim the $5000 prize.
Indianapolis, Indiana’s Courtney leads all drivers with a season-high 13 feature wins in USAC national competition this year (11 in sprints and 2 in midgets). Thomas, of Cullman, Ala., has won nine features between his seven in the sprint and two in the midget, plus three-straight second-place finishes to conclude the Silver Crown schedule. Third-place Justin Grant of Ione, Calif. is the only driver to win features in all three national divisions in 2018 with one each in the Silver Crown car and the midget, plus five in the sprint.
