Baxter Posts Trio of Top 15s During Two Weekends of Racing

Inside Line Promotions – LEMOORE, Calif. (Oct. 18, 2018) – It’s been a busy last two weekends for Blaine Baxter, who tackled a pair of doubleheader weekends of Restricted micro sprint racing.

The 10-year-old most recently competed in the two-day California Cup at Lemoore Raceway. His weekend started out well and he eventually finished 15th out of a field of 38 cars in Saturday night’s main event.

A solid night of competition on Friday placed him ninth in points going into Saturday night’s program, which he started on the outside of the front row in his qualifier. However, he was penalized a row for starting too soon and he eventually finished fourth.

“I didn’t realize what I had done wrong until it was explained to me after the race,” he said. “It was a learning experience, but it was frustrating.”

“It was a rookie mistake,” added his father, Dustin. “Unfortunately, it probably cost us about eight positions in the lineup for the A Main. It was a difficult track to pass on.”

Blaine Baxter started 15th in the main event and moved up to around 12th midway through the race.

“My car got to biking pretty bad,” he said. “I thought I was going over for sure. But by the time I got it back down several cars got by me.”

Baxter dropped to around 17th before recovering and eventually finishing 15th.

“We were fast all weekend,” Dustin Baxter said. “But that little mistake at the start of the race cost us a lot and was hard to make up.”

Blaine Baxter opened the month on Oct. 5 at Dixon Speedway in Dixon, Calif., with the King of California series. He fought back from a first-lap mishap after starting the main event eighth.

“Another car ran over his left rear at the start and did some damage,” Dustin Baxter said. “We had to work on the car, which forced us to restart last out of 23 cars. While most of the other cars ran the bottom, Blaine ran the high groove. He was eventually able to get it cleaned off and came back to finish 15th.”

A sub-par qualifying run the following night at Delta Speedway in Stockton, Calif., put the team behind early in the night for the final race of the year with the King of California series.

“We qualified 22nd, but Blaine was able to go from eighth to fourth in his heat race to get the final transfer spot for the feature,” Dustin Baxter said. “We started around 18th in the A Main and finished 15th. It was pretty uneventful. The track was tough and it was difficult for anyone to pass.”

Blaine Baxter plans to race this Saturday at Dixon Speedway and the following weekend at Delta Speedway during the two-day, 18th annual Turkey Bowl presented by Financial Center Credit Union.
