Matt Covington Brings Home Top-Ten At Devils Bowl

Matt Covington and the Covington Motorsports Team came home with a very solid top-ten run Saturday night after fighting fuel issues on Friday night this past weekend at Devils Bowl.

Matt was able to draw a low number and start the heat on Friday night from the 2nd position. The positive start to the weekend would be short lived as during hot laps it became apparent that there was a fuel issue which was preventing Matt from being able to get up to speed for 2 to 3 laps on every take-off. This would put Matt falling back on the start of his heat to 5th and fighting hard to bring his Wesmar powered, Maxim home back up to 3rd. The 3rd place finish would give Matt the 2nd starting position for the first B-main. As the green flag fell Matt would have to fight hard for every inch as the motor would not take-off again. Matt would fall back several positions before he was able to get going and drive back up to 3rd. The 3rd place finish would cost Matt a starting position in the main as he would miss the transfer by one spot.

With a fast car but problem fuel system the Covington Motorsports team would regroup and work hard to find the cause of the issue and get ready for what hoped to be a stronger showing on Saturday night. The draw would not be as kind to Matt on Saturday night as he would draw a middle of the road pill and start outside row two for the heat. With the fuel issues fixed Matt would take advantage of his starting spot and drive to the front of the heat and grab the checkers to take the heat race win. This would give Matt enough points to make the re-draw and start the feature from the 5th position. With a fast field of cars Matt would work hard to maintain his starting position and fall back early but was able to rebound and drive back up to 8th at the finish behind Tim Crawley.

The finish was not what Matt and the Covington Motorsports team was wanting but all in all considering the struggles on Friday and a solid 8th place finish on Saturday among some of the best open wheel sprint car drivers, Matt would come away content and maintain 11th place in the ASCS National points. Matt was able to close the gap and inch his way closer to top-ten honors for the year-end National points. The solid weekend would also help Matt stay a close 2nd in the ASCS National Brodix Rookie of the Year Standings.

Up next on the ASCS schedule is the National race at Little Rock's I-30 Speedway for the Short Track Nationals. Hopefully Matt and the Covington Motorsports Team can continue the streak of solid A-Main National starts and have strong showing for what is to be one of the biggest and hardest races of the year.
