Bryan Hulbert – WHEATLAND, Mo. (September 26, 2018) Rolling out of the 8th annual Hockett/McMillin Memorial with a trio of top-five finishes, including the season’s fifth victory in Thursday’s prelim A-Feature, Wayne Johnson and the Oil Medics No. 2c team had a lot to smile about this past weekend.
"It was a great weekend. Overall, I felt really good, but honestly, we came out to good to early. We just kept wrenching on the car and should have just left it alone,” stated Wayne.
Leading start to finish on Thursday night, Wayne followed that with a fifth-place finish on Friday, followed by a podium run on Saturday.
“The car was really good on Thursday, then Friday we were free, then Saturday we went too far the other way and we were tight, but all in all, it was a good weekend. With the format, we were able to move around and get to the front in the Heats and Qualifiers, and that made all the difference.”
Looking to this coming weekend, Wayne will be at Lawton Speedway, but it will be as a car owner as former Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour contender, Jordan Weaver, will be behind the wheel of a RaceSaver Sprint Car. One of two cars for rent this weekend, the other car is still available. Anyone interested can contact Wayne at (405) 306-5426.
“You know, I’ve got a couple of these cars for people to rent out when we’re not on the road, and it’s different from what I’m used to. I’ve always been the driver, so getting see the car as the owner and crew chief, it’s been a fun experience. Even my crew guy, Conner “Slippy” Nelson, went out and tested one of the cars a couple weeks ago.”
