Inside Line Promotions – SPRING VALLEY, Minn. (Sept. 18, 2018) – Everything is running smoothly for Big Game Motorsports driver Kerry Madsen, who swept a pair of IRA Sprint Car Series shows last weekend to extend his podium streak to seven straight races since the Knoxville Nationals.
“The car has been super quick lately so that gives you confidence,” he said. “I feel like the consistency has really built up in the last month.”
The Muddy backed team nearly won every time they hit the track the entire weekend. Madsen set quick time during qualifying both nights. A runner-up result in a heat race on Friday at Clay County Fair Speedway in Spencer, Iowa, was the only time Madsen didn’t win last weekend.
However, the strong heat race performance led to a spot into the feature redraw. Madsen got a favorable draw by landing the pole position for the A Main and he capitalized by the end of the race.
“I screwed it up and dropped back quite a bit,” he said. “I was back to about fourth. We battled back and had a good race with Terry McCarl. Once I got the lead I changed the line I was running. I was running the top at both ends. I switched to the bottom in turns three and four. Once I did that I checked out a little bit.”
Madsen’s victory gave the team even more momentum entering Saturday’s show at Deer Creek Speedway. Once again, Madsen set quick time during qualifying and he maneuvered from fourth to win a heat race. This time he pulled the No. 5 during the feature redraw to line up fifth in the A Main.
“I think I was back to sixth at the start,” he said. “I kept passing a car here and there. We ran in the middle in turns three and four and that’s where we did most of our passing. The track was right around the wall. The car was good enough we could veer off and get good grip through the middle. You had to have a good race car to be able to do that. We had a lapped car spin in front of us. We made contact, but kept going. That was the closest call after we got the lead.”
The two victories on the weekend give him seven this season and four in his last five races.
In other news, Big Game Motorsports is looking to add a crew member to the team for the remainder of this year with a potential future opportunity. A CDL is required. If interested and qualified call 602-370-5723.
