Official Press Release from Handy Racing Promotions in cooperation with USAC
CHICO, CA (10-9-10) – It's always been known as the "Gold Cup Race of Champions" and in 2011 it is destined to live up to it's name in the newest version of the event. After several weeks negotiations, Handy Racing Promotions Inc. has announced the official venue for the 58th fall classic at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico.
On September 7, 8, 9 and 10, Silver Dollar Speedway will bring four different championship campaigns together for the first time in the history of the Gold Cup Race of Champions. The World of Outlaws Sprint Cars will return to Silver Dollar Speedway and will wrap up the annually well known Gold Rush Tour with the finest of company including the fire breathing wingless sprint cars of the United States Auto Club (USAC_CRA) plus midgets along with the return of the Civil War Series sprint cars and the California based Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprint Car Shootout Series in the four day period.
"We have been working non stop to put together an exciting Gold Cup Race of Champions," said Alan Handy. "This year the event will bring a new diversity of championship competition to the fall classic that we feel will bring a new level of competition to Silver Dollar Speedway."
The 58th annual Gold Cup week will open on Wednesday, September 7th with the Civil War Sprint Car Invitational event for 360 powered winged sprint cars. The crown jewel of California's premier series for winged sprint cars will bring the top 32 drivers in the current Civil War Series point standings to the high banks of Silver Dollar Speedway for their highest paying event of the season. Joining the Civil War Sprint Cars will be the thrilling wingless sprint cars of the Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprint Car Shootout Series Invitational. The classic duo will be just the beginning of an action packed week on the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds.
New for 2011 will be the long awaited addition of the USAC Western Classic Racing Series Sprint Cars on Thursday night of the Gold Cup. The USAC Western Classic Racing Series is an extension of the already established “Louie Vermeil Classic” CRA event on the dirt, and the USAC Western Sprint Car Series on pavement. The USAC Western Classic Racing Series and CRA will be competing during the prestigious Gold Cup Race of Champions on Thursday, September 8, 2011. The event will take place just one week after the “Louie Vermeil Classic” at Calistoga Speedway and will be a points event for both series.
Many of the non-winged sprint car stars are also expected to strap behind the wheel of powerful midgets on the same night for an open wheel racing event that area fans will likely remember forever. The midget portion of the program will be finalized in the coming days as the officials of USAC work with the Bay Cities Racing Association to announce the title of this great event with further details on it's format to be announced.
On Friday night, the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series will pull into Silver Dollar Speedway as they wrap up their annual Gold Rush Tour. Different than years' past, the World of Outlaws will compete in a two-day cumulative point event to conclude the Gold Cup week.
