Beckendorf, Zevenbergen, Thompson amongst winners PJ Iron Cup Night 1

The Park Jefferson Speedway opened its final weekend of 2018 with a bang as the J&J Fitting Iron Cup put night number 1 in the books. Sponsored by the great people at M&H Equipment, the 5th annual Iron Cup saw 94 cars enter the gates at Park Jefferson Speedway to contest the opening night features.

Drivers in the Artworks Graphics IMCA Modifieds were competing for a boosted prize courtesy of the Sjogrensen WInery bonus. It was a shocking invader who came to Park Jefferson and walked out $1,000 richer as Danube Minnesota Brandon Beckendorf took his sweet five machine from row five to best the feild of 19 IMCA Modifieds. Beckendorf was able to run both hi and low around the track. After a challengingvbattle, Bob Moore and Beckendorf swapped spots in turns three and four before he got by Mapleton's Jim Thies to take the top spot and earn entry in the IMCA Fast Shafts Ballot for 2019.

Elijah Zevenbergen brought his sweet multicolored 66z and gave drivers the battle they wanted as he battled with Travis Barker and Jason Ward. Barker was the 2016 J&J Fitting Stock Car track champion, Ward the 2018, and Zevenbergen the top feature winner. In the end it was Zevenbergen picking up the top prize.

Elliot Amdahl bested a eleven car field to park the 51A in victory lane. The South Dakota driver, who finished third in points, redeemed himself and bested both Casey Abbas and new driver Trefer Waller to top the podium.

Cody Thompson continues to show his dominance as he had the benefit of a front row starting spot to win the opening night IMCA Sport Modified feature. Thompson continued to pad his Park Jefferson win totals with a dominating win. Karl Brewer continues to nip at his heals as he wheeled the 13 into second and Kole Nordquist rounded out the podium.

In a bit of an upset, it was Jeremy Smith coming from the front row to pick up the checkers in the Z98 IMCA Hobby Stocks. Smith had a number of card hot on this trail but was able to hold off the challenges of Zach Ankrum and Andy Hoffman. Hoffman will be one to watch on night #2 as he came from 15th to finish third.

Jay Devries invaded Park Jefferson during the month of August, and made the experience pay off as he took advantage of his front row finish to win in the IMCA Sport Compacts. Devries was able to hold off the always challenging Andrew Harris and Kaytee Devries finished third.

The J&J Fitting Iron Cup concludes tonight with I State Truck Centers championship night. Gates open at 5pm with hot laps slated for 6:30. Adult tickets $18, Seniors 70+ $15 and Children 6-16 $5. Children under 6 are free.

Tonight will feature a second complete program of IMCA racing with State, Regional and National points on the line. Drivers will again draw/redraw. Drivers who did not compete Friday night are allowed to compete Saturday night provided they complete registration.

Park Jefferson officials were forced to start the racing almost 45 minutes late on Friday night due to late arriving drivers. Any new drivers competing tonight must have registration to the office by 6:30. No registrations will be allowed after that.
