Inside Line Promotions – SPEEDWAY, Ind. (Sept. 11, 2018) – Zane Hendricks enjoyed a solid run in his qualifier at the Driven2SaveLives “BC39” presented by NOS Energy Drink hosted by The Dirt Track at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Thursday.

Unfortunately, that was his final race of the event after all features except the A Main were canceled because of curfew after rain delayed the final day of the USAC P1 Insurance National Midgets doubleheader.

Following a fifth-place finish in his heat race on Wednesday, the Tucker-Boat Motorsports driver charged from eighth to third in his qualifier on Thursday.

“I didn’t get a very good start,” said Hendricks, who was among well over a hundred drivers competing in the event. “We had a caution after a lap or two and I was eighth or ninth. But after the restart I was able to pick off a car about every lap or so. I had a chance at a pass for second after a caution on the white flag lap, but I didn’t feel like I could safely get it done. I figured that one position probably wouldn’t make a great difference, but who knows now.

“It was too bad that we couldn’t race our feature. They didn’t post any lineups for any features other than the A Main, but we figured I would’ve probably started around the middle of the B Main. But I certainly understand why they did it. I was surprised they got in what they did.”

The heat race on Wednesday marked his first time behind the wheel of a midget in about two months.

“I felt a little rusty in the car on Wednesday,” he said. “The track was a bit rough. We were able to change some things to the car on Thursday morning that made it better for the qualifier.”

Hendricks was pleased with the facility, especially considering its maiden event.

“The track was really nice – much better than I expected,” he said. “Usually new tracks like that aren’t too good. But this one was actually better than some of the regular tracks I’ve been to. Overall, I was happy with the way things went for us. We were able to move forward on a heavy track where there wasn’t a whole lot of passing.”

The rain also washed out a planned trip to race with the POWRi series in Oklahoma City on Saturday.

The next race scheduled for Hendricks will be the 37th annual Four Crown Nationals presented by NKT.TV on Sept. 22 at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio.
