Inside Line Promotions – NEW RICHMOND, Wis. (Sept. 10, 2018) – Big Game Motorsports driver Kerry Madsen produced his fifth feature victory of the season last Friday during the Northern Nationals at Grondik Law Speedway.
The Muddy backed team kicked off the IRA Sprint Car Series show at the oval in Superior, Wis., by qualifying second quickest. Madsen then maneuvered from fourth to win a heat race to earn a spot into the feature redraw. He pulled the No. 5 to line up on the inside of the third row for the A Main.
“We were pretty good all night,” he said. “It was a tough field, too. There were a lot of good cars there.
“We got a good start and ran fourth for about 10 to 14 laps. Everyone else started to slow down and our car came alive. We started passing cars and got to the lead with about 10 laps to go. The top line was the preferred lane for everybody. You could run up there pretty quick. As the race went on the car was coming alive and I could go quicker and quicker. I just had fun. It’s good, but the reality is when you drive for a top team it’s expected. It’s still not easy to do so it’s definitely a good feeling.”
Madsen wrapped up the weekend on Saturday at Cedar Lake Speedway during the Jerry Richert Memorial. He set quick time during qualifying before maneuvering from fourth to second place in a heat race. Madsen then pulled the second-highest number – nine – during the feature redraw to start the main event on the inside of the fifth row.
“We had more cars and there were a lot of good cars in front of us,” he said. “We were pretty good getting spots as we needed. We got to the end with however many laps it was to go. We were right on the leader challenging in traffic when the yellow came out. Brooke (Tatnell) did a good job running the top. I was on the bottom. It was going to be close at the end, but there was a car doing 360s on the last lap. I lifted to see where the spinning car was going to go and didn’t get the run.”
Madsen finished with a runner-up result, which was his 22nd top five of the season.
The Muddy sponsored team will return to IRA Sprint Car Series action this Friday at Clay County Fair Speedway in Spencer, Iowa, and Saturday at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn.
