Covington’s 11th Place Run Highlights LOS 360 Nationals Weekend

CG Motorsports- Glenpool, OK (Sept 6th, 2018) – Matt Covington drove the Triple X/A-Rock Materials mount to a 15th and 11th place finish during the 9th annual LOS 360 Sprint Car Nationals last weekend at Lake Ozark Speedway.

“We had speed early but struggled to get going in the features,” Matt said. “On Saturday night, we just weren’t tight enough to get the needed forward bite to move up through the field.”

Covington came home 4th in the heat after starting 7th, and 1st in the qualifier from the pole. The point total from the heat and qualifier started Matt 7th in the A-main. After fighting the loose race car and lacking forward drive, Covington slipped back to end up with a 15th place finish, capping off Night 1 of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event.

On Sunday, Covington came home 4th from 6th in the heat and 1st in the qualifier from the pole again. The results netted him a 12th place starting position in the feature. Matt battled most of the feature trying to advance, but only gained one spot, coming in 11th at the checkers.

“The car was good during the heat and qualifier on Sunday.” stated Matt. “We got enough points to start 12th in the feature. We drove hard to move forward, but we were just a little too snug to run the bottom and had to wait on it too long to rotate. Then I went to the top, and it was better, but the bottom was the place to be so we couldn’t make much progress. In the end, pretty much going green to checkered, we mostly stayed where we started. Overall it was a decent weekend for us, considering we were competitive early and made the show both nights. But it was still disappointing not being able to pass much in the feature. We need to learn how to better manage the kind of track conditions we had at LOS.”
