Promising Night for Call and CH Motorsports Ends With Frustrating Finish

Inside Line Promotions – ATTICA, Ohio (Sept. 5, 2018) – What appeared to be a promising season finale for Shane Call and CH Motorsports ended prematurely Saturday night at Attica Raceway Park.

The first-year driver enjoyed a solid heat race run to begin the evening at the high-banked oval.

“We were pretty fast in the heat,” he said. “We started sixth and finished second. I had a really good line on the track that no one else seemed to be running. The car was spot on. I don’t think there was anything we could’ve done to make it better.”

Call rolled off the starting grid for the final 305ci winged sprint car feature of the year in the eighth starting spot.

“There was still moisture in the middle of the track because they had prepped it for the All Stars,” he said. “I was running through the middle and I was hooking up pretty good. But after about five or six laps I got a little too eager and went too far below it on the exit. I spun out coming out of the corner because there was a big patch of dry slick. It was really dusty and I couldn’t see it coming.”

Call restarted the race from the tail of the field.

“Once the race restarted I found a different part of the track to run,” he said. “In about five or six laps I passed three cars. Then I was passing two cars in turns three and four and was running just under the cushion. I’m not sure what happened then with the two cars I was passing – they may have gotten together – but one of them slid up into me and my left rear tire ran over his right front and I started flipping.”

Call’s first experience upside down in a sprint car brought considerable damage to his car, but thankfully didn’t injure him.

“It wasn’t that bad,” he said. “I think I flipped a couple of times and the car landed on its side. I was fine. But it was especially disappointing since I had found something and was moving forward. I probably could’ve had an okay finish in spite of spinning out earlier. And it really wasn’t my mistake. But it was a disappointing end to a season where we had a lot of bad luck.”
