Big Week for Bacon after Double Duty Podiums

Lonnie Wheatley, WINCHESTER, Ind. (September 5, 2018) – Four races in three days last weekend is followed up by four more huge nights of racing this week for Brady Bacon.

This week’s competition fires off in monumental fashion with the Inaugural “BC 39”, the first Midget race to take place at the newly-constructed Dirt Track at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Bacon will wheel the FMR No. 76m in Wednesday night heat race action before the qualifying races and features take place on Thursday.

After that, action shifts back to the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car ranks with a Gas City I-69 Speedway tilt on Friday and then the conclusion of the Kokomo Sprint Car Smackdown on Sunday night. Bacon enters the Smackdown fourth in event points and will have a shot at reaching the pole position through the shuffle.

Last weekend’s action began with a pair of podiums in double-duty action at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, IL, on Friday night before luck soured over the next two nights at Federated Auto Parts I-55 Raceway and the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds.

Bacon kicked off Friday’s card at Tri-City Speedway by timing in second-quickest on the evening and then was dicing for the lead in the feature event before a late caution negated a move into the front. Bacon ultimately slipped to third in the final laps aboard the Bacon Racing No. 99.

“We passed for the lead and the yellow came out, the yellow hurt our tires and we couldn’t get going,” Bacon explained.

In the winged feature, Bacon redrew the eight to start fourth row outside in the feature and worked through traffic to take over second. By that time, the leader had slipped too far away to reel in, forcing Bacon to settle for a second podium finish for the night.

“We didn’t really have time to work on the winged car enough, we didn’t have time to undo some of the things that we did for the heat race,” Bacon commented.

The USAC National Sprint Cars made a debut appearance at Pevely, Missouri’s Federated Auto Parts I-55 Raceway on Saturday and Bacon timed in second-quick again to earn the fifth starting position for the main event.
Bacon was once again battling for the top position when his race was cut short by cam problems.

Bacon rounded out the weekend with the USAC Silver Crown “Ted Horn 100” aboard the Klatt Enterprises No. 6 on Sunday night. Bacon qualified well once again, timing in fourth this time before mechanical issues once again cut his night short in the feature event.

Bacon looks to get back on the winning side of things with this week’s USAC Midget “BC 39” and pair of USAC Sprint Car events.
