T.J. Buffenbarger, LAKE ODESSA, Mich. (September 25, 2010) - Dustin Daggett won Saturday night’s Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP feature at I-96 Speedway on the newly revamped 3/8-mile oval. Daggett started seventh and took the lead from Brett Mann on lap eight and never looked back.
By virtue of a third place finish combined by Gregg Dalman, second place in the point standings, being caught up in an incident that forced Dalman to retire from the feature with damage to the back of his car, Ryan Grubaugh won the 2010 ASCS SOD point championship.
Mann and Huisken started on the front row for the 25-lap feature with Huisken pulling away to a sizeable advantage. The first stoppage occurred when Shawn Dancer clipped a wheel and flipped in turn one. Dancer emerged from his car uninjured.
The field made it two more laps before the caution came out for Dalman and Mike Daggett’s damaged race cars in turn three. Both drivers retired from the event.
Huisken pulled away again after the restart, but disaster struck when Huisken jumped the cushion in turn four and slammed into the front straightaway wall. After being towed to the pit area Huisken walked away from the very scary incident.
This gave the lead to Brett Mann, but Daggett quickly moved up to second and battled Mann for the lead. The duo raced wheel to wheel exchanging lines for two laps before Daggett took the lead and checked out from the rest of the field.
Mann, Grubaugh, and Ben Rutan battled for second until Rutan slammed into the backstretch wall and brought out the caution flag with heavy right rear damage to his car.
The restart only momentarily slowed Daggett as he cruised to the victory over Mann, Graubuah, Dain Naida, and Jared Horstman
Grubaugh, Huisken, Davey Brown, and Daggett won heat race events. Louie Carufel won the B-Main event while Ken Mackey won the fast car dash.
