Inside Line Promotions – DEMING, Wash. (Aug. 9, 2018) – Robbie Price picked up his second win in three weeks in a micro sprint at Deming Speedway last Friday. This time around, the race was run in a non-wing for the 600cc Open Division.
Price started second and took the lead on the opening lap as he led wire to wire in a race that went 25 laps non-stop. At one point he had a half-track lead and he took the checkered flag more than three seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
“It had been five years since I had run non-wing so I was a little rusty starting the night off,” he said. “It’s not as big of a difference in the non-wing versus the winged car, but you do have to adjust a little bit. We got a good start and got to the lead right away and never looked back.”
Price opened the night by turning the sixth fastest lap in time trials. He won the second heat race after starting second. That put him on the outside of the front row for the main event and he capitalized.
Price has a pair of races on the schedule this weekend. On Friday night he’ll look for another win in a micro sprint at Deming Speedway followed by a trip to Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., on Saturday for a sprint car event.
Price has won two of his last three starts at Deming Speedway, including the second night of the Clay Cup Nationals on July 20.
“We’ve been on a good roll at Deming (Speedway) so I always look forward to going there,” he noted. “I’ve had a lot of success there over the year so that certainly boosts your confidence when you unload the car each night. Hopefully we can transfer some of that to the sprint car.”
The last few weeks Price has been alternating between a micro sprint and winged sprint car. Having a vast number of laps in each machine over the course of his young career, the native of Cobble Hill, B.C., is easily able to adapt to the nuances of each and be competitive.
“The micro kind of drives like a go-kart,” he explained. “The sprint car is completely different, but I feel very comfortable hopping between the two. Laps keep you sharp, whether it’s in the micro or the sprint car.”
Price has made a handful of starts at Skagit Speedway this year. He finished a season-best third on the second night of the Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup in June with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com. In his most recent visit to the 3/10-mile bullring, Price ran 10th in the finale of the Summer Nationals.
“Qualifying is the main key each night,” he said. “I have to get my qualifying together. It’s hard when you start so far back. If I qualify good, we’ll start more toward the front and we’ll be a contender.”
