Hanks Pleased With Speed Found During 305 Belleville Sprint Nationals

Inside Line Promotions – BELLEVILLE, Kan. (Aug. 7, 2018) – Brandon Hanks can’t wait to climb behind the wheel of the sprint car owned by Scott Brown and Terry Steward again.

Hanks drove for the duo last weekend at Belleville High Banks during the 305 Belleville Sprint Nationals, which ended early because of an overheating problem. While the feature results weren’t what the team aimed for, the speed displayed was top notch.

“That car was so good it practically drove itself,” Hanks said. “It made my job a whole lot easier. Scott and the guys worked on it and kept on working on it. I wish I could have been able to finish it to see how far up I could have got.”

Hanks had opened Saturday night with a sixth-place heat race run and a seventh-place qualifier result before he won the B Main from the sixth starting position.

“We worked on the car and found the speed it needed,” he said. “We fixed it for the B Main and when we woke it up it was like a different race car.”

Hanks continued to march forward in the main event as he powered from 17th into the top 10 during the first half of the race before the overheating engine forced Hanks into the pits early.

“It was already over 300 degrees,” he said. “That car was on a rail. It was almost too easy. I wasn’t expecting it to be that easy. It never happens like that. I had a top-three car easily. We had a lot more time left, too. We would have needed some cautions to be able to catch the leader and be able to have a shot at it, but it wasn’t meant to be because we ended up overheating.”

Hanks also exited Friday’s show early because of overheating. He had placed fourth in a heat race and third in a qualifier and was running inside the top 10 in the closing laps when he decided not to push the overheating problem any further.

“We were a top-10 car, but we weren’t a contender,” he said. “We were holding our own about seventh or eighth place. We’re not sure what the problem was either night. We changed radiators for Saturday night, but it didn’t work out for us then either.

“I want to thank Scott and Terry for the opportunity. We sure made a fast hot rod by the end of the weekend and I can’t wait to get back in the seat.”
