26 Promotions – Show Low, AZ – (July 31, 2018) – Rick Shuman registered a top-ten finish this weekend with the NMMRA Sprint Cars at Show Low Speedway Park’s Arizona vs. New Mexico Challenge.

“We started Friday with a lot more stagger than we have ever run at Show Low,” Shuman explained. “The car was really good in hot laps even though the track was greasy. We left the car alone for the heat race where we started on the pole. We fell back to third right off the bat, and it was apparent that we should have tightened the car up just a bit.”

Shuman would end up finishing the heat in fifth, lining him up on the inside of the sixth row for the start of the NMMRA feature event.

“We took some stagger out of the car and changed the air pressures to tighten up the car,” he said. “It was obvious to me when we rolled out for the main that there was not going to be any grip on the bottom and everybody was going to be up on the cushion which for the flat tappet cam motor we run is not a good sign.”

Shuman quickly moved into the top ten but had to restart at the tail of the field after being spun entering turn one on lap three. Shuman battled back to finish night one in thirteenth.

“We just kind of hung on there,” he said. “We ended up with no damage from the spin, and with some minor setup changes we were ready for Saturday.”

Night two kicked off with Shuman starting seventh in heat one.

“The setup was spot on, everyone was running the top, and the track was bad fast,” he said. “We tried to go to the bottom a couple of laps, but just did not have the horsepower to pass anyone.”

Shuman finished eighth in his heat, lining him up fifteenth for Saturday night’s feature.

“We made a couple of small changes to tighten the car up, hoping we could run the bottom,” he explained. “That seemed to be the ticket as we were able to pass a couple of cars and work our way up to ninth. All in all, it was a good weekend, the car rolled in the trailer, and we should be ready for Casa Grande with USAC on Labor Day.”

Shuman will be back in action on September 1st and 2nd with the USAC Southwest Series at Central Arizona Speedway.

Rick Shuman would like to thank Allen and Lisa at Beadle Bug Patrol and Cliff at Advanced Packaging for their continued support.
