Inside Line Promotions – ATTICA, Ohio (July 30, 2018) – Shane Call showed speed and gained more valuable experience last Friday night at Attica Raceway Park.
Call began just his fifth evening in a 305ci winged sprint car by starting ninth in his heat race.
“The heat race went really well,” he said. “I passed a car at the start and then there was a red for a car that flipped in front of me. I was able to pass two more cars on the restart and finished fifth for the final transfer spot. My car worked really well on the bottom of the track and I had an advantage because most of the cars in front of me were mostly in the middle of the track.”
Call rolled off in the 13th starting spot for the feature.
“I was running the bottom in the first half of the race and I went into turns three and four a little too hot,” he said. “The track was tacky at first and then I slid up a little bit to the middle and I ended up spinning out. I really couldn’t get anywhere after that and just finished where I restarted.”
It was another night of making valuable laps and soaking in the experience for the 18-year-old, who was credited with a 16th-place result.
“I’ve been having pretty good finishes in the heat races recently,” he said. “I just have to get used to the track in the feature. With the 305s, it’s really a momentum game. There’s very little room for mistakes because you don’t have the power to pull you through it.
“My problem now is that I don’t have enough experience to hit the exact same line every time like some of the drivers who’ve raced a lot longer. So for now I’m doing my best and watching and learning from some of the others.”
