Inside Line Promotions – LAKE STEVENS, Wash. (July 23, 2018) – Austen Wheatley returns to action this weekend during the 29th annual Bob’s Burger & Brew Summer Nationals at Skagit Speedway.
Wheatley will invade the high-banked bullring in Alger, Wash., on Friday and Saturday for an event that pays $10,000 to win.
“I haven’t felt like I’ve done that well at Skagit for whatever reason, but it’s a qualifying show and I tend to do well with qualifying,” he said. “It’s hard to pass in 360s so qualifying lets you make your own fate.”
Wheatley has recorded a top-10 result during 12 of his last 20 360ci winged sprint car starts at the track. He powered from 20th to 11th during a Dirt Cup preliminary night last month before capping the marquee event with a 13th-place result out of more than 50 drivers.
“I do feel good this year because we’re coming out of the box and competing for wins versus people who have been racing regularly,” he said.
Wheatley has garnered a pair of top fives and four top 10s despite only having eight starts under his belt this season.
