Cottage Grove, Oregon – September 7, 2010…After making the trip to the Cottage Grove Speedway this past Wednesday the father/daughter duo of Dan and Danielle Simpson will now get set to take on the biggest sprint car event in the West, with the 57th annual Gold Cup Race of Champions set to fire-off this week.

Traveling North on Interstate-5 to Cottage Grove, Oregon for a World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event last Wednesday, the Dan Simpson Racing team had an fun night of racing with the best sprint car drivers on the planet at the blazing-fast quarter-mile bullring.

“It was an enjoyable night at Cottage Grove and I know that Danielle and I had a great time on Wednesday,” commented the 66-year-old Simpson. “It’s a lot of fun racing with the World of Outlaws and the level of competition they bring each week is definitely second to none.”

A 31-car field signed into the pits at Cottage Grove Speedway on Wednesday and Daniele started off the night by qualifying 26th fastest aboard the No. 6up sprinter with Dan timing in 28th overall at the helm of his No. 4s mount.

With time trials complete Dan then found himself in an extremely stacked opening heat race, where he brought home a ninth place finish, which also saw Joey Saldana, Paul McMahan, Jason Meyers, Chad Kemenah, Steve Kinser, Tim Kaeding, Zach Zimmerly and Jac Haudenschild in action during it. Danielle then took to the track in the second heat race and scored a 10th place finish at the checkered in her Simpson Percheron, D.E.S. Inc. sponsored Maxim.

The Simpson Racing team then got ready for the 12-lap last chance showdown, where Danielle lined up eighth on the grid and Dan in 10th. As the night went on the track continued to change with it getting much slicker, which brought throttle control into the equation that much more. Both Dan and Danielle spent time running right on the cusp of the final transfer position, but ended the race just shy of accomplishing that, with Dan finishing ninth and Danielle in 10th.

The prestigious Gold Cup Race of Champions now looms ahead with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series in action at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico this Thursday through Saturday. Unlike in past years where the field was split during the two preliminary nights, drivers will now compete in all three-nights of racing, looking to gather points towards starting positions for Saturday, which will be capped with a 40-lap/$50,000-to-win main event.

Dan Simpson Racing is backed in part by D.E.S. Inc., DryVac Services Canada, Simpson Percherons and Flowmaster Muffler.
