CG Motorsports. Glenpool, Ok. (July 19th, 2018) Matt Covington scored the win at Brown County Speedway Monday night by using the cushion and high line to grab his third Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour win of the year.
After starting fourth in his heat, Covington wound up third and pulled the pole position in the redraw for the 25-lap feature event.
At the drop of the green, Covington settled into second down the back stretch after getting passed on the top in the first turn. Matt then went to work on the high side, using his momentum, to reel in the leader. Closing the gap lap after lap, Matt made the charge on the cushion exiting turn four, on lap six, to take the lead. Covington maintained control of the rest of race with only one mid-race challenge, occurring during his transition down to the bottom and into the developing rubber. The bottom line proved to be the preferred line to close out the race and secure the win.
“I was pretty stoked to get that win Monday and earn our third tour win of the year,” stated Matt. “We’ve never had more than two in one year and we’ve really been shooting for multi-win years all along. We’ve had the speed and been fast all year, and I am finally over all my hand troubles. We dealt with some bad luck that got us in a hole with a couple DNFs. But, at this point, our focus is just more wins and podiums and not the points situation. I would like to thank Mike for all his work and keeping the car prepared and rolling every night this year, he has done a great job. Also got to say “Thank You” to all of our partners and sponsors that have backed us this year, along with previous years when we were trying to build this program. We are not satisfied and only hungry for more. Hopefully this gives us the momentum for continued success as we battle through the second half of the season. I am looking forward to Knoxville and the Nationals. We have been hit or miss there with good runs but also plenty of struggles. Still one of my favorite tracks and anxious to get there this weekend and see what we got.”
Up next for Matt and team is the famed Knoxville Raceway this weekend for the weekly show. Covington will use the opportunity to try a few things and fine tune for the upcoming 360 and 410 Nationals in August.
