Inside Line Promotions – HAYS, Kan. (July 17, 2018) – Zach Blurton recorded two top-10 results last weekend during the 10th annual Wheatshocker Nationals at RPM Speedway.
The doubleheader started on Saturday when Blurton’s night began with a dominating heat race win before it nearly ended with a feature victory.
“The track got really slick and that’s when we do really well,” he said. “I started outside front row for the feature being the second highest point man. It was so humid and the air was nasty. Our motor stumbled and wouldn’t take off and I fell back to second. Once the motor started going I was able to take the lead for about five laps.
“I got to lapped traffic and they were running three wide and I went to the bottom and Jake Bubak went to the high side and got around me. It was one of those deals where I needed to be second going into lapped traffic and make him make a decision. But we ended up second so it was a good night.”
Sunday started well, too, as Blurton powered from fifth to second place in his heat race. He rolled off sixth in the A Main.
“They went out and worked the track before our feature and I thought it would be the same type of deal we had the night before,” he said. “I got up to fifth and was challenging for fourth and the track took rubber. Our car really got tight in the middle of the corners when that happened and I slid back to ninth. That is something we have to work on figuring out.”
Blurton, who continues to lead the United Rebel Sprint Series championship standings, is taking this weekend off as the team prepares for Fan Appreciation Night at Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, Kan., on July 27. He will then race at El Paso County Raceway in Calhan, Colo., the following night before tackling the Belleville 305 Nationals in Belleville, Kan., Aug. 3-4.
“We won the Fan Appreciation deal last year in front of over 5,000 people,” he said. “We also won at Calhan last year so I’m pretty pumped up to get back to those tracks.”
