Inside Line Promotions – ROSSBURG, Ohio (July 16, 2018) – Greg Wilson produced his best week of the season last week in his home state of Ohio.
“It was great to be home,” he said. “We’ve been working hard on this team all year and it really showed up in the results.”
Wilson and his Hercules Tires, DNC Hydraulics, Ohio Logistics and Gear Alloy Wheels backed team kicked off a hectic week last Tuesday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica during the Ohio Logistics Brad Doty Classic. Wilson qualified 12th quickest in his group and advanced from fourth to third place in a heat race to secure a spot into the A Main. He then rallied from 18th to eighth during the main event. It tied his season-best result with the World of Outlaws.
“That was a great run and we really needed it,” he said. “We have a lot of laps at Attica throughout the years and our confidence level at these Ohio tracks is pretty high. I think that, combined with the direction we’re taking this team, set us up for the strong run at Attica as well as at Eldora last weekend.”
Wilson rode the momentum from Attica Raceway Park into Eldora Speedway on Thursday when the half-mile oval hosted the opening night of the 35th annual Kings Royal weekend. Qualifying got the team behind the eight ball, but that all changed on Friday when Wilson set quick time during his group’s session for the first time this season.
“Qualifying is an area we’ve struggled with this season, but we’ve made gains on it,” he said. “For us to qualify in a decent position during three of the four nights last week was a big reason for our success.”
Wilson posted a third-place result in a heat race to lock into the 14th starting position in the A Main.
“We’ve had quite a few good runs at Eldora during the years and our car was handling well early in the night,” he said. “The track surfaced played into our hands for the main event and we were able to work the bottom to the middle.”
Wilson charged from 14th to a runner-up result in a non-stop race. His second-place finish was his best outing of the year and came at the perfect time as the $50,000-to-win Kings Royal finale was the ensuing evening.
Wilson timed in 14th quickest overall out of more than 50 drivers on Saturday at Eldora Speedway. A fourth-place finish in a heat race missed a lock-in position to the A Main by only one position, but Wilson made up for it by winning the Last Chance Showdown to make the main event for the eighth time in the last nine years. He then rallied from 21st to 13th in the 40-lap A Main.
“Making the Kings Royal A Main is a big deal, especially with the way our year has gone,” he said. “For us to move forward the way we did validates our progress and it gives us confidence moving forward.”
Wilson will head east this week for races on Tuesday at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., during the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup; on Thursday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., during the Gettysburg Clash; and on Friday and Saturday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., during the Summer Nationals with the World of Outlaws.
