Inside Line Promotions – GERMANTOWN, Tenn. (July 11, 2018) – Sammy Swindell is venturing to Ohio this weekend to tackle the 35th annual Kings Royal.
Swindell and car owner A.G. Rains recently received a refreshed 410ci engine for the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series tripleheader this Thursday through Saturday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg.
“The biggest part is we’re going in a little blind,” Swindell said. “We haven’t got to run a whole lot every time we’ve had the 410 in. We’ve only finished a couple of races. I know we’ve made some gains on it and it seems to get better every time we run it, but when you make a few laps and that’s it you don’t get a good feel how the thing is going to be in a longer race. We’ll go off my experience and try to put the best deal together. Hopefully it’s close enough.”
Swindell is no stranger to the half-mile oval. He ranks second with 21 career World of Outlaws victories at the track. Swindell won the Kings Royal in 2012, 1999 and 1992, and he has earned a dozen top fives and 17 top 10s during the $50,000-to-win event.
“A big deal is finishing,” he said. “If we can get that part under control and go through a race with some notes and time on things that will be a success. When we keep throwing things at the motor you don’t know where you’re at or your baseline is. It’s been difficult to go into the top series and race. Those guys are running every weekend and we just show up so we’re at a little disadvantage, but I can get it close. It’s just if we got all the right tools to make the necessary changes to make everything just right.”
Swindell and Rains have combined for four wins, 17 top fives – including 13 straight podiums –and 18 top 10s during 18 races in 360 competition this year. Their best 410 finish is a ninth-place result.
