Inside Line Promotions – ATTICA, Ohio (July 10, 2018) – Shane Call is still soaking in everything he can when he hits the track in his CH Motorsports 305ci sprint car.
“One of the things I have to get used to is to trust the race car,” he said. “A sprint car should drive itself essentially. When you enter a turn it should almost turn for you. I’m not used to the car turning itself. I have a tendency to overturn and really correct because I get too sideways. That’s one of the big things that I have to learn to overcome.”
Call was given another opportunity to learn last Friday at Attica Raceway Park, where he advanced from fourth to third place in a heat race to earn a spot into the feature redraw.
“The track was near the cushion so I had a pretty good starting spot,” he said. “Once we got our positions everyone held their own.”
Call drew the No. 8 during the random redraw to start the A Main on the outside of the fourth row.
“The feature didn’t go as well as I planned,” he said. “Entering the first turn the car got really loose and I spun out in turns one and two. When I spun I got hit in the front by another car. My car stayed running, but I had to go to the work area. I ended up going back out and finishing the race, but the torsion bars were pinched inside the tubes so I didn’t have any suspension in the front. The rest of the race the car was pretty messed up.”
Call rebounded from the opening-lap incident to finish 17th.
He will be off this week before returning to Attica Raceway Park on July 20.
