Inside Line Promotions – BELGRADE, Mont. (July 10, 2018) – Cody Masse took a huge leap forward last weekend when he earned a spot into the A Main during each night of the Grizzly Nationals at Gallatin Speedway, which hosted the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com along with the ASCS Frontier Region.

“It was a really successful weekend for us,” he said. “To be able to make the show both nights straight out of the heat races, too, was a big step up. In my first five ASCS National Tour races I didn’t make the show. Last year I made the show for the first time and this year I made it in both nights. Hopefully it will start some good momentum we’re desperately needing. We’re turning the corner now.”

The doubleheader began on Friday with Masse placing third in a heat race. He ranked 16th in overall points, which locked him into the 16th starting position for the main event.

“On Friday I had a visor break on the first lap so I didn’t get the best start,” he said. “Once we got settled into a rhythm the car was really, really good. The track took rubber so unfortunately everyone was good. We managed the tires, which isn’t an easy task. When you see guys like Sam Hafertepe Jr. and Blake Hahn start popping tires you know yours aren’t too far behind.”

Masse made it to the finish with a 16th-place run, which was his career-best outing with the ASCS National Tour.

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday with Masse placing second in a heat race to rank 11th in overall points. That lined him up 15th for the main event.
“I felt better about our performance Saturday than Friday,” he said. “There was no attrition. All the Nationals drivers were up front and nobody blew tires so we didn’t get any extra spots. I had a great car on the bottom of the track. I was able to make up some ground and race with our top regional guys. I knew the rubber would come on the top so I had to move off the bottom. The track did hang on longer so that gave us a chance to do some racing.”

Masse finished with an 18th-place result.

He ranks seventh in the ASCS Frontier Region championship standings – only 17 points out of top five – entering a doubleheader this Friday at Electric City Speedway in Great Falls, Mont., and Saturday at Big Sky Speedway in Billings, Mont.
