IU Surplus Summer Doubler Returns to Bloomington Speedway Friday

The popular IU Surplus Summer Doubler event brings added excitement to the Bloomington quarter-mile clay this Friday. Points earned in competition will double for racers in three of Bloomington’s top divisions, the Tom White & Company Real Estate non-wing sprint cars, the Green Earth Recycling and Composting winged RaceSaver sprint cars, and the Brandeis Machinery Super Stocks. With this theme, the Speedway will host many IU Surplus store employees, their families and customers, for an exciting night at the race track.

In addition to the scheduled racing program, the Prelude to the Scream, featuring celebrity drivers at the wheel of Hornets in a 25-lap race to benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. The drivers competing in this event are among the best around, but must not have driven a Hornet (generally a front-wheel drive, 4 cylinder sedan) race car before. The race boasts $500 to win, with a matching amount pledged if the winner donates the winnings, and the starting lineup will be determined by donations collected during the evening.

The general admission grandstand will open at 5:30, with hot laps at 6:30 and racing at 7:30. General admission is $15 and kids 12 and under are free with an adult. The pit gate will open at 4:30 and pit passes are $30.
