July 6, 2018, Bloomington, Indiana - Anton Hernandez notched his second Bloomington Speedway win Friday night, while Jason Hehman claimed his fifth, Ryan Thomas his second, and Dan Smith was a first-time winner.

Starting in the fourth row in the Green Earth Recycling and Composting RaceSaver sprint car division, Hernandez control when an incident took out the leaders and never looked back. Early leader Patrick Kren looped in turn two while working through slower traffic, and while everyone made quick evasive maneuvers, Kerry Kinser was nearly through the melee when he clipped another car’s left rear tire and took a tumble. Running third at the time, Hernandez was the leader for the restart and put his machine on the cushion and would not be caught. Ethan Barrow held off John Paynter Jr. and Ryan Tusing for second, and Chris Babcock scored an impressive third place finish. It was the second win of the season for the TOPP Motorsports #30 driver.

Hehman continued his winning ways, stacking his fifth Brandeis Machinery Super Stock feature trophy in victory lane. Battling Jack Frye and Steve Hollars for the lead through most of the race, Hehman opened a comfortable advantage in the closing laps. Steve Hawkins and Quintin Strope took fourth and fifth.

It was the second feature victory at Bloomington for Thomas, who has been a strong contender in each of the AJ Bowlen Realtor ReMAX Acclaimed Properties-sponsored UMP modified feature events. Thomas outran Kenny Carmichael, Stan Beadles, Jeff Deckard and Dave Baldwin in Friday’s action.

In the Bloomington Speedway Hornets, Dan Smith survived a thrilling, beating and banging 20 laps, which has become the trademark of the Hornet features. It was the first win in his own car for Smith at Bloomington this season. Leroy Sherfield finished second, followed by Chad Taylor, Tom Houston and AJ Hobbs.

Next Friday’s show at Bloomington Speedway will be the IU Surplus Store Doubler. It will feature the Tom White & Company Real Estate non-wing sprint cars, Green Earth Recycling and Composting RaceSaver sprint cars and Brandeis Machinery Super Stocks. All points earned will be doubled. Also on the agenda is the Prelude to the Scream, a fundraising event for St. Jude’s Hospital, with top racers from other division competing in Hornets in a single race main event.
