CG Motorsports- Glenpool, Ok. (July 5th, 2018) Matt Covington came home with an 8th place finish followed by the Hard Charger that netted a 6th place finish this past weekend aboard his Triple X/WESMAR Racing Engines mount with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour, presented by Sawblade.com at the Grays Harbor Raceway during the Fred Brownfield Classic Race.
Matt started off Friday night with a 4th place effort in the heat after rolling out 8th. The result narrowly locked him into the A feature, putting him 16th. Covington was able to move forward throughout the feature and rally for an 8th place finish.
Saturday night, Covington had to work a little harder to get his A-Rock Materials/T&L Foundry machine into the show after a deep pill draw. Matt finished 6th in his heat race, failing to obtain the needed points to lock into the A. During the B, he managed to grab the 3rd and finale transfer, which placed him 22nd in the A feature. With a fast race car, Covington was able to charge through the field and gain 16 spots, landing him a 6th place finish and the Hard Charger award.
“Friday night was a decent run and respectable top-ten,” stated Covington. “It was good to be able to move forward in the feature, but we were still a bit off speed wise to run with the leaders. Saturday, we were just unlucky at the draw table and had several good cars in front of us in the heat. Once we got out of the B, I knew we had a fast car for the feature, but it’s hard when you start so deep. But the car was on a rail and we charged up through there pretty good. To start 22nd and come home 6th was a solid run for us. We had a car for the podium but ran out of laps. Mike has done a good job during this swing so far and I need to thank him for all his hard work. Our goal is to try for consistent runs and get the momentum back to carry us into the remainder of the season.”
Up next for Matt and the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented is the Third annual Grizzly Nationals at Gallatin Speedway in Belgrade, Mont. this Friday and Saturday.
