Skylar Gee Posts Trio Of Top-10’s During Washington Swing

Bryan Hulbert – ELMA, Wash. (July 4, 2018) Racing through the Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup and Fred Brownfield Classic with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com, Canada’s Skylar Gee posted three top-ten finishes and advanced position 33 times over five A-Features aboard the Strongs Crane Service No. 99.

Making the cut for Dirt Cup through his Qualifying nights with a seventh and 12th place showing in A-Feature competition, the end result didn’t match the performance as Skylar ended up sidelined early with a broken rear end.

“We kind of struggled the first two nights, but we kept making changes and made the show and Saturday we were running up front and the car felt really good. Just sucks to have a part failure end your night like that.”

Moving south to Grays Harbor Raceway for the Fred Brownfield Classic, the team has the Strong Crane Service No. 99 dialed in with a strong run from 15th to seventh to open the two-day event.

“We were fast again, just had a few things happen that kind of held us back. Ended up getting the nose wing knocked down on the initial start but we were still able to get up to seventh, so considering having to fight the car a little bit, it was a good night.”

Having to try and race through the B-Feature on Saturday, a flat right rear tire relegated Gee to using a provisional. Despite the deep starting spot, Skylar was on a mission with an impressive run to ninth.

“That was just a bad luck deal. We cut a tire down running third in the B-Main,” stated Skylar of the situation. “In the Feature, I was determined to get as much as I could. I wasn’t going to make up points, but I wasn’t going to give up either. We had a fast car all weekend, just needed the luck to go with it.”

Up next for Skylar is the Grizzly Nationals at Gallatin Speedway in Belgrade, Mont. on Friday, July 6 and Saturday, July 7. The closes Skylar will get to race near his hometown of Leduc, Alb. Canada, the 2016 Frontier Regional Champion is excited to get back to Montana.

“We had some really good runs at Gallatin, and getting the race this close to home, I’m looking forward to this weekend. I have some great support in Montana, and we’re shooting to get the win for them. I have to thank Strongs Cane Service in Billings. They’ve let me use their shop and have been really great to our whole team this year.”
