Grizzly Nationals Next For Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series

Bryan Hulbert – BELGRADE, Mont. (July 3, 2018) Normally, when a driver wins they explode out of the car with a celebratory fist pump, maybe climb to the top of the car, exchange a few hugs and get their picture taken.

At the Grizzly Nationals in Belgrade, Mont. that all still happens, but while that’s going on, the driver usually a nervous grin on their face as a nearly 1,000lbs Grizzly Bear comes strolling up to the car for pictures. Blake Hahn was there in 2016. Wayne Johnson did it in 2017, and now it’s time to see who will take their turn with Adam the Grizzly Bear on Friday, July 6 and Saturday, July 7 at Gallatin Speedway.

“Standing next to Adam is by far the coolest thing I’ve ever experienced after winning a race,” stated Blake Hahn who swept the inaugural Grizzly Nationals. “He’s very well trained, he’s laid back, drools a lot, but he is still a Grizzly Bear so no matter what you’re a little nervous. Especially when he stands up because then you really see how big he really is.”

Presented by the area NAPA Auto Supply Stores of Montana, the 3rd annual Grizzly Nationals open each night at 5:00 P.M. with racing at 7:00 P.M. (MDT). Admission each night is $20 with kids 12 and under free into the Grandstands. Tickets are sold at the track starting at 1:00 P.M. Gallatin Speedway is located at 2290 Tubb Rd in Belgrade, Mont. For more information on Gallatin Speedway, call (406) 388-9666, find the track on Facebook or go online to http://www.gallatinspeedway.com.

Going into the Montana double-header, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. has reclaimed the points lead with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com by 11 markers over Seth Bergman. Losing some ground, Blake Hahn remains in the fight with a 75-point deficit while Wayne Johnson has fallen to fourth with a 205-point margin to make up. Johnny Herrera holds fifth in tour standings.

Matt Covington in sixth is trailed by Scott Bogucki. A bit of a homecoming for Skylar Gee, the former Brodix ASCS Frontier Region Champion is eighth with Jamie Ball and Travis Rilat making the top-ten.

Co-sanctioned with the ASCS Frontier Region, Kelly Miller brings a 45-point lead into the weekend over David Hoiness with Robert DeHaan, Anthony Farnsworth, and 15-year old James Setters making the top-five in regional standings.
