Inside Line Promotions – QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. (July 3, 2018) – Joshua Shipley reeled in another podium finish with the ASCS Southwest Region last Saturday at Arizona Speedway.
“We did well this weekend,” he said. “While it wasn’t the prettiest third-place run, we got it done.”
Shipley started third in his heat race and finished fourth, which put him in the redraw that included the top eight drivers in heat race points. Shipley drew the No. 4 to start fourth in the feature.
“We made some changes to the car to make it a lot better and I’ve got a lot of faith in my crew chief, Alan,” he said. “I ran third for probably half of the race and I was starting to inch up on second.”
The feature went green for 20 laps until there was a red flag with just five laps remaining. By that point Shipley had slipped back to fifth, but he got some pointers from the crew under the red and decided to change his line.
“Those last five laps I just pushed it real hard,” Shipley said. “I got up to second and me and another guy had a battle to the line. He just got me by a nose and I finished third.”
The podium finish boosted Shipley toward the top of the ASCS Southwest Region championship standings.
“We’ve closed in on the leaders a good bit,” he said. “We’re only 10 points out of the lead. Our Shaver engine was really fast and Alan had a good setup for us.”
Shipley returns to competition this Saturday at Show Low Speedway Park in Show Low, Ariz., with the San Tan Ford Desert Sprint Car Series.
