Inside Line Promotions – ELMA, Wash. (July 3, 2018) – Travis Rilat has clawed his way back into the top 10 of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com championship standings after he posted a top-10 finish during the opening round of the Fred Brownfield Classic last Friday at Grays Harbor Raceway.
Rilat, who missed a couple of races earlier this season because of work commitments, rallied throughout Friday. He maneuvered from sixth to fourth place in a heat race before winning a B Main from the second starting position. Rilat capped the night by guiding the BDS Motorsports No. 1 sprint car from 17th to 10th in the main event.
“We didn’t get enough passing points in our heat race so that put us a bit behind, but we made good progress all night,” he said. “It was tough to get around a lot of guys and when you’re starting toward the rear of the field you’re going to be stuck in dirty air the entire race. I thought our progress was positive.”
Rilat drew well to kick off Saturday’s show. He started a heat race on the outside of the front row and quickly took the lead. Unfortunately, the steering broke in turns three and four on the opening lap and it sent Rilat into the wall. He was unable to finish the race and couldn’t start a B Main.
“I felt like we had a really good car in hot laps and with the way we started the heat, but we had a part failure that beat up the car pretty good,” he said. “We’ve won a few races at Grays Harbor in the past and I certainly thought we had a car capable of winning last weekend, but it didn’t work out in our favor.”
Rilat is scheduled to compete this Friday and Saturday at Gallatin Raceway in Belgrade, Mont, for the Grizzly Nationals with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com.
Rilat earned finishes of first and second, respectively, during two visits to the track in 2016. He’s also scored at least one feature victory in the state of Montana during two of the last three years.
