Inside Line Promotions – ATTICA, Ohio (July 3, 2018) – Shane Call claimed his first career heat race win during only his third night behind the wheel of a sprint car for CH Motorsports last Friday night at Attica Raceway Park.

Call led from start to finish to win his 305ci winged sprint car heat race, his first victory ever in motorized competition.

“It was awesome,” he said. “It was pretty emotional for me, especially since this was just my third race ever in anything.

“I felt like he (challenger John Ivy) was there the whole time so I pushed it as hard as I could. There were a few times when I saw him come up under me and he was fast on the bottom so I started running lower on the track. I tried to take his line away and ran a little bit quicker.

“It was a relief for me and reassurance that I’m getting somewhere with this. It definitely gave me a lot more confidence. This is a new thing for my team, too. We’ve ran 410s for the longest time and this is our first time with a 305. Even though it’s still a sprint car, it’s kind of a different ball game since they weigh more and have less power.”

Call started ninth in the A Main and finished 15th.

“We had several restarts and I fell back to 16th early in the race,” he said. “Everyone went to the bottom in the first turn and my car got really tight. I chased the guy in front of me for about 18 laps before I finally found a quicker line and passed him. I was close to passing another car at the finish. I wish I could have found the quicker line sooner. I probably could’ve passed more cars.

“I’m still not entirely comfortable racing with the whole cluster of cars for the first few laps of a feature. If you make a little mistake, it can cost you a lot of spots. I need to learn how to hold my position better early in the race until they get a little spread out. I just need more practice.”

Call will return to Attica Raceway Park this Friday with visits to other tracks a possibility in the future.

“We’ll see how Friday goes at Attica,” he said. “Then we might go to some new tracks like Lima and Fremont sometime after that.”
