Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (June 26, 2018) – Kerry Madsen was in contention to win his first race of the season last Saturday at Knoxville Raceway.
The Big Game Motorsports driver qualified second quickest and powered from sixth to second place during a heat race at the half-mile oval to garner the second starting position in the 25-lap A Main.
“We qualified well and were good in the heat,” he said. “The car was pretty good. When we were going through traffic (Brian) Brown got a run on me.”
Madsen led the first 20 laps before he ended upside down in turns one and two with only five laps remaining while leading the race.
“Once you’re going through traffic you’re going to lose some speed,” he said. “I was getting through it good. I got stuck in the middle in turns three and four. That gave him a run on me going into turn one. He came across like a short slider. I just couldn’t get stopped. I had to try to turn the car left and put it sideways and it got tripped up in the cushion.”
Despite the 21st-place result, Madsen said he left the night optimistic about how the Muddy sponsored team has continued to improve.
“In the A Mains early on we were struggling,” he said. “Guy (Forbrook) made some changes and got the car pretty nice on Saturday. Hopefully we come out of it with something. I feel like after Saturday night we’re on the verge of being better than we were last year.”
Madsen will return to Knoxville Raceway this Friday and Saturday for a World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series doubleheader.
Additionally, Madsen and Big Game Motorsports extends its thoughts to the Johnson Family and team after the sudden passing of World of Outlaws driver Jason Johnson last weekend.
