Inside Line Promotions – PORT ROYAL, Pa. (June 21, 2018) – Joe Trenca was stymied by a pair of problems last weekend during main event competition.
The action began on Friday at Clinton County Motor Speedway in Mill Hall, Pa., where the Mucci Motorsports driver won a Patriot Sprint Tour heat race during his debut at the oval.
“We were good in hot laps and felt really comfortable,” he said. “Then we were good the whole heat race and won by a good margin. I felt great going into the main event.”
Trenca drew the No. 5 to start the A Main on the inside of the third row. Unfortunately, he didn’t get an opportunity to race.
“We pushed off for the feature and had a mechanical failure,” he said. “We went to the work area and scrambled to get it fixed, but we just missed it for the two-minute window we had to get back on the track. We didn’t get to start the race.”
The team traveled to Port Royal Speedway on Saturday. The 410ci sprint car division had twin heat races and Trenca placed seventh and 10th, respectively.
“I felt comfortable in hot laps,” he said. “We tightened up a little. There was more grip in the heats than during hot laps. The track was real, real fast. We just misjudged it. We didn’t get the finishes we wanted, but we got some laps.”
That lined Trenca up on the inside of the ninth row for the main event. However, he was forced to pull in early during the main event because of a part failure.
“It’s been frustrating this season because we’ve had so many little things go wrong,” he said. “We’ll just keep at it and hope our luck gets better soon.”
Trenca is scheduled to compete this Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Saturday at Port Royal Speedway. However, with a six-hour ride on tap both races will depend largely on a favorable weather forecast.
