Inside Line Promotions – HIGHLANDS, Texas (June 20, 2018) – Tommy Bryant and the SawBlade.com backed Cooper Motorsports team faced their first slick race track of the year and struggled with the handling of their 360ci sprint car during the ASCS Gulf South Region show.

Bryant managed to hold onto a sixth-place finish at Battleground Speedway on Saturday to remain within striking distance of the leader in the championship standings. Bryant is only 59 points out of the top spot.

“This year we’ve been so fast, but because of the weather we’ve only competed on tacky, heavy tracks,” he said. “Saturday it flipped the script on us. We simply misread the track. We went out for hot laps and were really fast. The track was different. It was dry, but had grip. It was very unusual.

“We started sixth in the heat and finished third, but the car was way off, way too loose. We got a little rain shower and we thought that would help the track for the feature. I thought we were aggressive enough tightening up the car, but the track got more slick than we thought it would and we were just way too loose. I couldn’t get off the corners.”

Bryant started the A Main sixth and battled for a top five throughout the race before ending sixth. It was his second straight sixth-place result.

Bryant will get a chance to redeem himself as the team heads back to Battleground Speedway for another ASCS Gulf South Region race on June 30.

“The good news is we loaded the car in the trailer in one piece and we learned a lot,” he said. “We will be a lot more aggressive on the setup next time.”
