Inside Line Promotions – HIGHLANDS, Texas (June 19, 2018) – Channin Tankersley nearly captured his second ASCS Gulf South Region win of the season last Saturday at Battleground Speedway.

Tankersley guided the Old School Racing entry to a heat race win, which earned a spot into the feature redraw. He pulled the No. 2 during the random redraw to line up on the outside of the front row for the A Main.

“The track was pretty slick and it had two very different corners,” he said. “You had a real fast, racy corner and a super slick corner.

“The guy on the pole got going really good. I was on him the whole time, but couldn’t do anything. We were equally paced. I got by him in traffic with four or five laps to go. I led three or four laps and then he got by me at the end.”

Tankersley pounced in traffic to take over the top spot, but it was traffic that led to his undoing on the last lap.

“We got to three or four lapped cars,” he said. “They were racing side by side so it was like trying to pick the better line. He timed it right and made the smarter move and capitalized. Coming off turn four he got under me.”

The last-corner pass relegated Tankersley to a second-place finish. However, the result propelled him into the lead in the ASCS Gulf South Region championship standings.

“I can’t say a lot because I’ve won so many races passing on the last lap,” he said. “That’s the first time it’s happened to me.”

Tankersley is scheduled to be off this weekend before returning to Battleground Speedway on June 30 for an ASCS Gulf South Region race.
