26 Promotions – Queen Creek, AZ – (June 14, 2018) – For the first time since February, Colton Hardy shed the wings and went Non-Wing racing with the USAC Southwest Series at Arizona Speedway.
“Taking a break from the wing side, we decided to bring out our Non-Wing car for a night of USAC racing. It didn’t start off the best,” explained Hardy. “We went first to third in the heat and still had the wrong gear in even after changing it after hot laps. Nate, AJ, Aaron, and Randy got the car dialed in for the feature though.”
Rolling out twelfth for the start of the 30-lap feature, Hardy made his way into the top-five before the halfway point.
“We had a really good car in the feature,” said Hardy. “We got up to fifth pretty quickly and began chipping away at the gap for fourth. We got by fourth around halfway or so, and we were getting ready to make a move for third when the red came out. We went back green with about twelve-laps to go and moved into third. We kind of kept pace with RJ Johnson and Charles Davis Jr. but I wasn’t consistent enough on my marks to stay with them and fell back some.”
Hardy took the checkered flags in third, earning his first podium finish in a Non-Wing Sprint Car this season.
“It feels good to have a good run, after some bad ones, especially in a Non-Wing car that I don’t get to run that often,” he said. “The car was really quick in the feature, I just needed to hit my marks a little more consistent, and we could have kept up with the leaders a little better late in the race. All in all, it was a good performance, and I can’t thank all my guys enough for dealing with the heat and giving me a good car all night long.”
Hardy travels to California next weekend to run the Budweiser Outlaw Nationals on June 22nd and 23rd at Plaza Park Raceway in both the Super 600 and Non-Wing divisions.
Colton Hardy would like to thank Diamond Mechanical, A & C Remodeling, Engler Machine and Tools, CSI Shocks by Factor One, Schoenfeld Headers, Marks Bolts, Nuts & Surplus, M & J Trophies and Apparel, Bandit Racing, Borello Race Engines, and Highline Clothing Co. for their continued support.
