Masse Posts Top-10 Finish With ASCS Frontier Region at Gallatin Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – BILLINGS, Mont. (June 14, 2018) – Cody Masse scored his second consecutive top-10 finish with the ASCS Frontier Region last Friday night at Gallatin Speedway.

Masse began the night by drawing the pole starting position for his heat race at the oval in Belgrade, Mont.

“We finished second in the heat, which put us in the redraw,” he said. “That’s where we need to be. I got lucky in the pill draw and drew the front row for the main event.

“I took the initial lead and led a lap before there was a yellow for a spin. We had a complete restart and that time I fell to fourth. Of course that one stuck, which is how it goes.”

Masse maintained a top five for the first portion the A Main.

“I ran in fourth for about the first half of the race before the car bicycled on the cushion in turn three and bounced toward the wall,” he said. “I caught it before it hit the wall, but I slid over the banking and lost about five spots. There was another late restart where I lost another position and wound up 10th. So it was a top 10 and a pretty solid run, but after starting on the front row I would have liked to have had a little better finish than 10th. We probably could’ve had a top five, but it’s always what could’ve been.”

Masse moved on to race at Big Sky Speedway on Saturday.

“It was only my third time at Big Sky and my first time there in two years so it took a little bit to get used to the place again,” he said. “I made a mistake in the heat race that left us with a bad finish and put us starting near the back of the feature.

“We just missed it pretty bad in the feature. The car didn’t handle very well no matter where I raced and I was doing a worse job than the car and finished 18th. We were just out to lunch and that happens sometimes, especially at a track where we don’t have a thick notebook. We’ll have to go back to the drawing board before we return there in July and just take this as a learning opportunity.”

Masse, who ranks seventh in the ASCS Frontier Region championship standings, will take the next three weekends off before competing in the Grizzly Nationals, which is July 6-7 at Gallatin Speedway with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com and the ASCS Frontier Region.
