Inside Line Promotions – WEEDSPORT, N.Y. (June 13, 2018) – Joe Trenca logged a lot of laps last weekend when the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions visited his home state of New York.
The Mucci Motorsports driver kicked off the action on Friday at Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, where he battled engine woes throughout most of the night.
“We had motor troubles on Friday night and didn’t get it figured out until the A Main,” Trenca said. “That hindered the whole night. We didn’t have the speed in time trials. Once we got it resolved we were okay.”
Trenca qualified eighth quickest in his group before he advanced from eighth to seventh place in a heat race. That lined him up on the inside of the 11th row for the main event.
“With the competition being a little stiffer it was tough to get through there, but we made up some ground,” he said. “We did learn some things.”
Trenca advanced from 21st to 15th in the A Main.
He capped the weekend on Sunday at Weedsport Speedway, where qualifying put him behind the eight ball.
“I guess I just picked the wrong line in time trials,” he said. “Every car ran a different line. It was weird.”
Trenca timed in ninth quickest in his group. He maneuvered from ninth to seventh place in a heat race to miss a lock-in position to the main event by only one spot. That relegated Trenca to the B Main and he placed fifth to transfer into the back of the feature.
“In the A Main we’d pass a couple of cars, get passed, pass a couple of cars,” he said. “It was probably the slickest track I’ve seen in my life. We used it as a test session to see if some things we did would work. We did some out of the box things and they worked a little bit.”
Trenca picked up a handful of positions to finish 19th.
He will make his debut at Clinton County Motor Speedway in Mill Hall, Pa., on Friday with the Patriot Sprint Tour before competing on Saturday at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa.
